Hawaii Senate passes civil unions bill

HONOLULU -- The Hawaii Senate approved same-sex civil unions Friday, potentially setting up the measure for final passage as soon as next week.
The Senate passed the bill on an 18-7 vote, moving it to the House and signaling that the Senate's Democratic majority has enough votes to override a possible
veto from Republican Gov. Linda Lingle.
The House has yet to decide if it will vote on the bill. House leaders say they will take up the bill if they have a veto-proof two-thirds majority but may let it die if they have only a small majority.
"It's very close," said Democratic Speaker of the House Calvin Say. "During an election year, this issue is so divisive that it may hurt many of our members."
The bill would grant gay and straight couples the same rights and benefits the state provides to married couples.

Jesus said, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

The Apostle Paul declared, "Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, "THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND DRINK, AND STOOD UP TO PLAY." Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents. Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 1 Corinthians 10:5-11

James, remember that God does not discriminate; both the evil and the righteous shall perish in all of these catastrophes that are sweeping the earth. Might as well enjoy heaven on earth now before God creates a mess with a volcano, earthquake, tornado, or a swarm of locusts.

Also note that God seems to like San Diego because no volcano, hurricanes, earthquakes, or other catastrophes have ever caused a problem in San Diego. Just a few harmless rainbows.

Hawaii had hurricanes and erupting volcanos way before this bill passed. Also, I wonder if God unleashed His wrath through tornadoes in the Christian-laden Bible Belt. It seems that there are a lot of tornadoes where there is a big Christian presence.

If you believe God will cause such tragedy to punish people...if God is behind such arbitrary cruelty, how does that make God any different than Satan? How is that even logical?

In Pompei there were lots of sex parlors and Isis Palace. In Asisi where John Paul II let Dalai Lama put Buddha statue for ecumenism, St Francesco's Cathedral collapsed by an earthquake. Colossus of Rhodes collapsed by an earthquake only 58 years after it was built. And Napoli, and Sicily, and Inca...
