They keep playing with political fire and we are all getting burned.

They keep playing with political fire and we are all getting burned. -- Miles McPherson and his mega church The Rock Church in San Diego, California continues to honor and promote radical pro-homosexual San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders.

In the process of attempting to utilize a works-based approach to being "nice" to Jerry Sanders and the City of San Diego, the Rock Church refuses to realize just how devastating the results of such an approach are becoming for Christianity in San Diego.

How is Mayor Sanders responding to the recent honoring he received from Pastor McPherson and The Rock Church? Sanders has just agreed to testify in federal court to overturn Prop. 8 so that gay marriages can resume in California. Sanders, who has done everything possible to promote homosexuality and gay marriages in San Diego, made the announcement to testify FOR gay marriage at a recent meeting he had with radical liberal San Francisco city attorney Dennis Herrera. And AFTER The Rock Church broadcast their recent honoring of the pro-gay marriage mayor.

This past summer, The Rock Church was also one of the biggest promoters of countering a Christian Conservative boycott of the San Diego Padres baseball team due to the Padres funding gay pride events. The Rock Church was actually selling tickets to a Padres Game on the church website even though the Padres had given a $3,000 contribution to San Diego Gay Pride in 2008 and the team allowed another gay pride celebration at Petco Park this past summer.

In addition to the constant pandering to the City of San Diego, the Rock Church refuses to address the numerous members of their church who have earned large sums of money working for biotech companies that do human embryonic stem cell research. This is coupled with the fact that San Diego Padres chairman John Moores has given millions of dollars to fund human embryonic stem cell research, as well as Moores' rabid support of anti-Israel former U. S. president Jimmy Carter and the Carter Center.

Miles McPherson and The Rock Church would best be served by a simple refresher course in the Bible when Jesus was tempted by the devil. Matthew 4:8-10 states: Again, the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And the devil said to Jesus, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me." Then Jesus said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY."

In doing all of their good works to garner favor from Mayor Jerry Sanders, The Rock Church needs to realize they cannot negotiate with the devil. You cannot be nice to the devil. You can only resist him until he is defeated.

The Rock is known as a “Do Something Church,” with close to 100 ministries that reach out to the community in many ways. The Rock has committed to giving 600,000 hours of transformational volunteer service in 2009 to San Diego and the world.

McPherson is the author of several articles and books, including DO Something! Make Your Life Count, which will be released in January.

James, what have you done besides shut down a porn store? Miles McPherson may not be perfect but he gets things done and is changing the culture of San Diego.

By the way, Pastor Miles is very gay friendly and gays are very welcome in his church.

James, the world is not the enemy. Gays are not the enemy. The mayor of San Francisco is not the enemy. Maybe you should consider the verse that says Christ did not come into the world to condemn it, but to save it.

I encourage you to follow the example of Christ and NOT condemn the world, but do what He has called you to do to save the world.

It is obvious that you do not like the Rock Church. Many people DO like this Church. James, get over it. Find another church. There is a church for every taste in San Diego.

Ack! As a gay, I hate having to take Miles McPherson's side, but at least Miles has both oars in the water.
