On Oct. 23, 1956 a small group of Budapest college students rose up to challenge the communist dictatorship which controlled Hungary. The student protest turned into a nationwide revolt which toppled the Soviet-controlled Hungarian government. Soviet troops responded by massacring 2,500 Hungarian citizens and re-establishing their murderous regime.
