I am proud that our city joins many other cities in California to take a stand against unfair discrimination against gay people. <br /><br />In a few days we will celebrate 4th of July which celebrates our Declaration of Independence which states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…..”<br /><br />One of those rights is the right to pursue the lifestyle of choice, whether it be gay or straight. I am proud and very grateful that our service men and women risk their lives to protect my right to enjoy a gay lifestyle, just as they protect your right to enjoy an “ex-gay” lifestyle. It is not fair to ask these brave gay servicemen and women to keep silent about their chosen lifestyle, just because your interpretation of the Christian bible says it is not acceptable to “God”. Our nation is governed by the Constitution, not the Bible.
